Individual and Family Plans
Who qualifies for a Special Enrollment Period?
Outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period, you can only change plans if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
If you recently lost medical insurance coverage or experienced another qualifying event in the past 60 days, a Special Enrollment Period lets you enroll in a new health plan immediately, even if it is outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period.
- Loss of employer health insurance
- Marriage or divorce
- Adopting a child
- Moving from one insurance coverage to another
- Changing your immigration status
- Turning 26 years of age (or the maximum dependent age allowed in your state) and can no longer be on a parent’s health plan
