Are You Eligible?

If you do not have health insurance through an employer or recently lost coverage, an Individual and Family Plan may be a good choice for you to get quality coverage at an affordable price. According to the Affordable Care Act of 2010, you are entitled to enroll in an Individual and Family Plan as long as you are living in the U.S. lawfully and are not incarcerated or covered by Medicare.

Know When You Can Enroll

    Enroll During the Annual Open Enrollment Period (OEP)

    November 1, 2023–January 19, 2024

    Outside of Open Enrollment – if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

    If you recently lost medical insurance coverage or experienced another qualifying event in the past 60 days, a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) lets you enroll in a new health plan immediately, even if it is outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period.

    Qualifying Special Enrollment Period Events

    • Loss of employer health insurance
    • Marriage or divorce
    • Adopting a child
    • Moving from one insurance coverage to another
    • Changing your immigration status
    • Turning 26 years of age (or the maximum dependent age allowed in your state) and can no longer be on a parent’s health plan
    • Other major life changes

Whether you are applying directly through Jefferson Health Plans, through Pennie®, or a broker, you will need to complete your binder payment to activate your coverage.

The Open Enrollment Period for Individual and Family Plans runs from November 1, 2023 through January 19, 2024 this year. However, it’s important to check back here, or on, for any updates or changes to enrollment dates.

In most cases, you can only enroll in an Individual and Family Plan during the Open Enrollment Period. However, certain life events, such as getting married or having a baby, may qualify you to shop for or make changes to a plan during the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) outside of Open Enrollment.
